The town of Berane is located in the northeastern part of Montenegro, near the Lim River. Berane is the administrative center of Berane Municipality.
Berane is connected with a highway with Bijelo Polje and Rozaje. The closest railway station is Bijelo Polje. There is a small airport in Berane, which is currently not in use.
The area of Berane belonged to the Medieval Serbian state of Raška. Near Berane, it is worth visiting the well-known Durdevi Stupovi Monastery, which was constructed in the second half of the 12th century.
The second most important monastery in this area was Sudikovo Monastery, it was built in the 12th century and was destroyed by the Turks in the 18th century. Today, there are only remnants of the monastery.
